WeTalkPal ("we", "us", or "our") provides an AI-powered English learning platform. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our website, mobile applications, browser extensions (including the WeTalkPal Chrome extension), and related services (collectively, the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
Information We Collect
We may collect the following types of information:
- Account information: name, email address, password (stored in hashed form), and profile preferences.
- Usage data: practice sessions, conversation history, fluency scores, streaks, achievements, and in-app interactions.
- Voice and audio data: recordings you submit during speaking practice for transcription and feedback.
- Payment information: billing details processed by third-party payment providers (we do not store full card numbers).
- Device and technical data: IP address, browser type, operating system, device identifiers, and crash logs.
- Browser extension data: authentication tokens, email address, UI preferences, guest identifiers and lookup quotas, saved wordbook entries, and words or phrases you choose to look up (see "Chrome Extension" below).
Chrome Extension
The WeTalkPal Chrome extension helps you look up English words while browsing and learn with an AI pet companion. This section describes how the extension handles data.
- User-initiated lookups only: The extension reads text you double-click or select and choose to look up via the context menu. It does not scrape full page content, monitor your browsing history, or collect data from pages you visit without your action.
- Data sent to our servers: Selected words or phrases, and (when signed in) authentication credentials needed for account features, are sent to our API at https://api.wetalkpal.com over HTTPS to generate explanations, example sentences, spoken lessons, and wordbook sync.
- Local storage: Preferences (e.g. lookup enabled, interface language), session tokens, cached profile/pet data, guest ID, and guest quota may be stored locally using Chrome's storage API so the extension can restore your settings between sessions.
- Guest mode: If you use the extension without signing in, we may store a random guest identifier and remaining free lookup quota locally and on our servers solely to enforce free-tier limits.
- Permissions: The extension uses storage (settings and session), contextMenus (right-click lookup), host access to our API, and a content script on web pages only to show the learning overlay when you look up a word.
- Limited use: Extension user data is used only to provide and improve the English learning features described above. We do not sell personal or sensitive user data, and we do not use it for unrelated advertising or creditworthiness purposes.
Uninstalling the extension removes locally stored extension data from your browser. To delete server-side account data, contact us at [email protected] or use in-product account deletion where available.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the Service, including AI conversation and pronunciation feedback.
- Personalize your learning experience and track your progress over time.
- Process subscriptions, payments, and account-related communications.
- Send service updates, security alerts, and (with your consent) marketing communications.
- Detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, and technical issues.
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.
Voice & AI Processing
When you speak with our AI partner, your audio may be transmitted to speech-to-text and language model providers to generate transcriptions, feedback, and conversational responses. We use these services solely to deliver the speaking practice experience. We do not sell your voice recordings. You may delete your conversation history from your account settings where available. Sharing of Information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share information with:
- Service providers who assist with hosting, analytics, payment processing, email delivery, and AI infrastructure, under strict confidentiality agreements.
- Law enforcement or regulatory authorities when required by applicable law or to protect our rights and users' safety.
- A successor entity in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, with notice to you where required.
Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. We may retain certain data longer where required by law, to resolve disputes, or to enforce our agreements. You may request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us.

Cookies & Similar Technologies
We use cookies and similar technologies to remember your language preference, maintain your session, and understand how visitors use our website. The Chrome extension uses Chrome's storage API (not website cookies) for local preferences and session data. We implement industry-standard technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit and access controls. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
